5 Meters 80 by Nicolas Deveaux

5m80 by lesateliersOrange

5 Meters 80 is an exquisitely animated film by Nicolas Deveaux. High diving giraffes. Brilliant. Oh, and the name? Well, it refers to the height of the stars of the film.

This extremely talented writer and director of animation films (3D and relief) finds his inspiration within his two passions, image and the animal world. In 2003, fresh out of school he directed 7 Tonnes 3, (video below) a short film of a champion elephant trampoline jumper. Its critical acclaim has subsequently led to a very strong resume. He is with Paris-based Cube Creative, and this film is in celebration of their 10th anniversary.

The Little Prince: Matej Peljhan's imaginative photography takes a boy with muscular dystrophy on an inspiring adventure

Luka, a 12-year-old boy with muscular dystrophy, may not be able to ride a skateboard or shoot hoops like other kids his age, but thanks to the help of a photographer, he's able to see himself take part in some of the activities he had only dreamed of doing.

In a photo series entitled "The Little Prince," Matej Peljhan, a Slovenian photographer, brings Luka's imagination to life by including the 12-year-old in a variety of lifelike scenes.

But Luka’s imagination is very much alive, and it prompted him to ask Peljhan if there was a way to put him into photos that show him doing different activities. Luka dreamed of seeing himself skateboarding, diving, playing basketball, and breakdancing.

So Peljhan put his own imagination to work.

After dismissing Photoshop as a possibility, Peljhan came up with the idea of posing Luka in various positions on a white sheet on the ground, creating scenes around him, and taking photos from above, photos that make it look as if Luka is in motion.

I applaud Peljhan for his creative and inspiring artwork, and making Luka's  dream come true.

I also thank Peljhan for granting me the permission to share his touching photos.

Let's hope the story of Luka and Peljan inspires many Indians afflicted with muscular dystrophy.
